LAWRENCE WARRANT

IT WAS JUST BEFORE 9:00 LAST NIGHT WHEN INDIANA STATE Trooper JUSTIN Bean, along with other Troopers from the Jasper Post and deputies from the Dubois County Sheriffs Department arrested 27 YEAR OLD ,Ryan O’neal Lawrence of Jasper. LAWRENCE WAS WANTED ON an outstanding warrant through Orange County for Battery with a Deadly Weapon. THEFT RECOVERY

ITEMS FROM A WEEKEND THEFT HAVE BEEN RECOVERED. a property owner near the Birdseye Conservation Club notified THE Dubois County Sheriff’s Deputy Sergeant Lampert that he had located a mud-covered motorcycle & a 4-wheeler abandoned on his property. THE information was forwarded to INDIANA STATE Trp Philip Lubbers who was working ON a similar case. Trp Lubbers responded and determEND that both vehicles were those stolen from Jason Brockriede in HuntingburG. THE ITEMS WERE STOLEN OVER THE WEEKEND.

INTERSTATE 69

State highway officials finally are pushing ahead with plans to start work this summer on the first segment of the Interstate 69 extension between Evansville and Indianapolis. INDOT spokesman Andy Dietrick says the state plans to open bidding today on a contract to build a two-mile section of highway from Interstate 64 to State Road 68. It will be part of the highway's 13-mile Section 1 that will run to Oakland City and be the first segment built. Officials won a court battle against environmentalists four months ago, allowing the plans to move forward. AS PATOKA LAKE INCHES TOWARDS IT’S MAXIMUM CAPACITY, THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS LOUISVILLE DAM SAFETY OFFICIALS want residents to know THE PATOKA DAM IS fully OPERATIONAL AND SAFE.

AS OF YESTERDAY MORNING, THE LAKE WAS 85 PERCENT FULL AND COULD HOLD APPROXIMATELY 2.5 MORE INCHES OF POTENTIAL RAINFALL. IF THE LAKE REACHES IT’S MAXIMUM POOL LEVEL OF 548 FEET, IT MAY RESEMBLE AN OVER FLOWING BATHTUB. THE SPILLWAY WILL SERVE AS A BYPASS FOR WATER FLOW.. THE RESERVOIR SERVES TO PROTECT THE AREA FROM FLOODING.

TO BATTLE THE CURRENT WATER LEVEL, THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS WILL BE LETTING MORE THAN NORMAL WATER FLOW FROM THE DAM. WITH TWO TO FOUR INCHES OF RAIN EXPECTED TOMORROW, ALLOWING EXTRA WATER TO FLOW NOW, IS A PREVENTATIVE MEASURE.

Myers warrant

Indiana state trooper brock werne served a warrant for a Crawford county man. 46 year old Bradley j. meyers was served an outstanding arrest warrant for Failure to Appear in court on a charge of Driving While Suspended with a Prior.

CRASH

PROPERTY DAMAGE WAS ALL THAT RESULTED FROM A LATE MORNING ACCIDENT. ACCORDING TO THE JASPER POLICE DEPARTMENT, 67 YEAR OLD SHARON HIMSEL OF JASPER WAS BACKING OUT OF A PRIVATE PARKING LOT NEAR 4TH AND MILL STREET IN JASPER. 61 YEAR OLD GAYLE JOCHEM WAS EASTBOUND ON 4TH STREET AT THE MILL STREET STOP SIGN. HIMSEL STATED SHE DID NOT SEE THE VEHICLE BEHIND HER 96 BUICK AND PROCEEDED TO BACK INTO JOCHEM’S 04 LEXUS.

DAMAGES TO HIMSEL’S BUICK IS ESTIMATED AT $600, WHILE JOCHUM’S LEXUS SUSTAINED DAMAGES AROUND $2500.

Crisis Connection Names ‘Special Someones’

Crisis Connection, Inc. named Perry Central 7th Grade ‘The League’ Philanthropists as April’s Special Someones. This award spotlights members of the community who have demonstrated the willingness to go the extra mile in assisting victims of domestic and sexual violence. These outstanding individuals are not vying for public attention; they simply go quietly about their business of being compassionate and involved people who are making a difference in someone’s life everyday.

This young group of people, lead by Nancy Wright, took it upon themselves to collect and donate toiletry items for Crisis Connection’s ‘Take Care Inside & Out’ endeavor. The ‘Take Care’ campaign educates teens on the subjects of respect of self and others, the right to change one’s mind, the right to express one’s feelings, the right to refuse intimacy with another, and the right to make one’s own decisions, WHILE takING responsibility for themSELVES and to respect rights of others.

Gibson crash

A late night accident in gibson county has left 8 people injured. at about 11:30, Indiana State Police responded to a two vehicle crash on S.R. 65 at C.R. 700 South.

Preliminary investigation revealed that 27 year old Jaime Burris, of Evansville, was driving her 1995 Ford S.U.V. southbound on S.R. 65 approaching C.R. 700 South, while 25 year old Tamika Robinson, of Henderson, KY, was driving her 1990 Chevrolet passenger vehicle eastbound on C.R. 700 South when she failed to yield the right of way and collided into the passenger side of Burris’ vehicle. Robinson and passengers 28 year old Shawna Morell and 25 year old Darik Morell, of Evansville, were taken st. mary’s hospital.

Jaime Burris and all four of her passengers were also injured. Burris passenger, 30 year old David Smitha of Evansville, were both airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital, while 24 year old Tabitha Burris, 18 year old Justin Burris, and 17 year old Brittany stuard, all of Evansville were taken to Deaconess Hospital for a back injury.

April Tax

Today is april fools day, and while it is a day known for pranks, the raising of Indiana sales tax is not a joke. Effective today, Indiana’s state sales tax is up one percent, from to six to seven. The hike in the sales tax is part of House Enrolled Act 1001, which is the property tax reform package signed into law by Governor Daniels. The tax increase will help offset new limits on property taxes. Isp Theft

Indiana state police responded to a call of theft, this weekend. Police responded to the huntingburg residence of Jason brockriede. Where they report that an Unknown suspect or suspects, trespassed and stole property from brockriede’s barn; Among the items taken were a Green 2007 Kawasaki 360 Prairie 4-Wheeler and an Orange 2007 KTM 250 Motorcycle. The total value of the stolen property IS estimated to be AORUND $10,000.00. The items were left unsecured and unattended on private property.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security has set up a toll-free number for residents of Southern Indiana to report damage caused by the recent flooding. Those who sustained damageS due to the severe weather and flooding FROM March 17 and later are asked to report their losses, to determine if federal assistance should be requested. losses can include structural damage to homes and loss of personal property. Callers should be prepared to offer detailed descriptions of the damagES. People can call, TOLL FREE, AT 866-210-1925, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. UNTIL Friday.

ACCIDENT

IT WAS YESTERDAY MORNING WHEN THE DUBOIS COUNTY SHERIFF department RESPONDED TO AN ACCIDENT. 48 YEAR OLD KEVIN NALLEY of huntingburg WAS NORTHBOUND ON COUNTY ROAD 600 WEST, IN HIS 96 PONTIAC. For an unknown reason, NALLEY WENT OF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROADWAY INTO A DITCH AND STRUCK TWO UTILITY POLES WITH HIS VEHICLE.

To GAIN on damageS caused by the severe weather and flooding in southern Indiana, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security is asking people who sustained losses to call their toll free number.

Beginning TODAY, anyone affected by the flooding should provide information about damageS by calling, toll-free, 866-210-1925, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday.

THOSE WISHING TO PAY 6 PERCENT SALES TAX HAVE UNTIL MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. STARTING TOMORROW, The Indiana Sales Tax will increase from six percent to seven percent.

The increase IS part of House Enrolled Act 1001, the property tax reform package signed into law by Governor Daniels. The sales tax hike will help offset new limits on property taxes. Indiana Retail Council President Grant Monahan says retailers had an extraordinarily short amount of time, about two weeks, to prepare for the hike and reprogram cash registers and computers.

VOTER DEADLINE

The deadline for voter registration is quickly approaching. With one week remaining before the April 7th Voter Registration deadline, Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita is reminding Hoosier voters to make sure they are registered to vote, so that they can participate in the May 6th Primary Election.
Voters who need to register for the first time must do so on or before April 7th, for the May 6th Primary Election. voters who have moved or changed their name must update their information by the same deadline.
Anyone not registered to vote may register in person at the county voter registration office, county clerk's office, or any Bureau of Motor Vehicles license branch. Voters may also mail in their registration form, available at www.sos.IN.gov. Mailed in registration forms must be post-marked by the same April 7th deadline.
